Monarchs Stumble, Lose to Senators | The Washington Senators beat the Kansas City Monarchs, 8-2, at RFK Stadium. The Senators got a fine performance from left fielder Jim Rice, who was 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 3 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Mickey Harris, the winner, goes to 1-0. He allowed 1 run on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 2 strikeouts over 6 innings. The save was credited to Ryne Duren, his 1st.
Rice hit a run-scoring single in the bottom of the third to help the Washington cause. The single, which was hit off Shawn Estes, allowed Washington to take a 1-0 lead.
