Washington starter Danny Jackson pitched well against the Kansas City Athletics at RFK Stadium. The left-hander led his team to a win, 6-2. Jumbo Brown earned save number 3 this season.

Mickey Mantle tagged a home run off Woody Williams in the bottom of the second. His 3-run blast put the Senators on top, 3-0. In all, Mantle had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Mantle told the Washington Chronicle.

The win puts Washington at 7-6.
