Stars Shut Out American Giants, 2-0 | The Detroit Stars went home winners at Tiger Stadium, thanks in large part to starter Bob Ojeda. Ojeda stifled the Chicago American Giants, enabling Detroit to grab the 2-0 win. In 7 innings, Ojeda surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 0. He allowed no runs. Rob Dibble closed the game out for Detroit, earning his 3rd save.
The Stars got an important contribution from catcher Stan Lopata, who in the bottom of the fourth knocked a 1-2 slider into center for a run-scoring double. It was his 2nd double of the season and put the Stars ahead, 2-0.
"I liked his command," said Detroit manager David Mollicone. "Bob was throwing strikes."
The American Giants, now 6-10, continue their inauspicious start. | | | | |
