| Eagles Score Late, Upend Bears, 9-6 | The Houston Eagles reigned over the Milwaukee Bears in damp conditions.
The Houston Eagles weathered a fine game by Milwaukee right fielder Nick Swisher to upend the Bears, 9-6, at County Stadium . Swisher went 2 for 3 with a home run, a double, and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Houston pitcher Tom Griffin got the win, upping his record to 1-0. Dick Radatz got the loss. Takashi Saito sewed up the save, his 1st.
Houston used a clutch hit from Dave Bancroft to get the win. The shortstop drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Eagles ahead, 9-6. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It was a nice win for our side today," said Eagles manager Charles Wolfson. "Not perfect, but we'll take it."
Houston goes to 2-0.
