Caribou Lose to Federals, 5-4 | The Chicago Federals racked up a win at Wrigley Field, bumping off the Caribou Caribou, 5-4. Jon Matlack, who started for Chicago, pitched effectively for his team. Chicago reliever Luis Mendoza picked up the win, upping his record to 1-0. Sam Frock took the loss. Nelson Figueroa earned the save for Chicago, his 1st.
Chicago took a 5-4 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Thurman Munson hit a clutch solo home run to bring Federals fans to their feet.
"We had the game right there for the taking," said Caribou manager Miguel Jon Woodsum. "But we decided not to take it."
