| Browns Snatch Late Win | Memphis got a terrific performance from pitcher Tommy John, but it wasn't enough to beat the St. Louis Browns. St. Louis won the Elvis Stadium contest, 9-5. John threw 7 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. St. Louis, with the win, is 13-6.
St. Louis used a timely hit from Roger Maris to get the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Browns ahead, 6-5. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
"We're in a marathon, not a sprint," said Maris. "But I like how we're playing right now."
