Senators Prevail, 5-3, Over Memphis | RFK Stadium was the site of a competitive game between the Memphis Red Sox and Washington Senators.
The 5-3 Washington win over Memphis was due largely to Jim Rice. The Senators left fielder was 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Jack Fisher picked up the win, improving his season record to 2-0. He struck out 1 in 7 innings. Joe Nathan, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 1st save.
Rice made an early impact for Washington when he stroked his 4th home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which came in the bottom of the second, put the Senators on top, 5-0.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Rice said after the game.
