| Federals Scratch and Claw to 3-1 Win | Rickwood Field was the site of a competitive game between the Birmingham Black Barons and Chicago Federals.
Chicago beat Birmingham on the strength of starter Bob Gibson's fine effort. The right-hander led his team to a win, 3-1. At 59-67, the Federals claim third place in the Senior Circuit Mama Mia.
Chicago used the clutch hitting of Jimmy Sheckard to snag the win. The left fielder drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Federals ahead, 3-1. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Gibson said after the game.
