Federals Need Extra Frames to Get Past Black Barons | Chicago Federals starter Don Liddle was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Birmingham Black Barons, 6-4. Stan Ferens notched the win in relief. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 4 hits in 2 innings. His record now sits at 8-11. Nelson Figueroa was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 4 save opportunities.
Runs were hard to come by in this one. Rafael Palmeiro's at-bat with one out in the top of the tenth, therefore, was critical. The Chicago pinch hitter reached on an error by the 1B, driving in 1 run, to put his team on top, 3-2.
"Feels good to get the job done," Liddle said after the game.
At 60-68, the Federals are currently third in the Senior Circuit Mama Mia. | | | | |
