| With 2-0 Win, Stars Go to 72-56 | The Detroit Stars faced a tough opponent in Yokohama pitcher Madison Bumgarner, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Kanagawa Prefecture Park by a final score of 2-0. Bumgarner went 9 innings and allowed 2 runs. Jeff Weaver, the winner, goes to 14-6. He allowed no runs on 4 hits, with 2 walks and 2 strikeouts over 5 innings. With the win, Detroit upped its record to 72-56.
Detroit used the timely hitting of Alex Rodriguez to capture the win. The shortstop socked a 2-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Stars ahead, 2-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a big one.
"The old adage is true," said Rodriguez. "Good pitching stops good hitting."
