| Federals Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Senators, 7-6 | Leo Gomez did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Washington Senators from losing, 7-6, to the Chicago Federals at Wrigley Field. Gomez went 2 for 2 with 2 home runs and 2 walks, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. The Federals go to 62-72, putting them third in the Senior Circuit Mama Mia.
Coming to the plate with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning, Chicago catcher Thurman Munson had a chance to be the hero. Facing Washington pitcher Jumbo Brown with a runner on 3rd, Munson, who is a two-time Ozzie Award winner, hit a sacrifice fly.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Munson.
