Monarchs Nip Federals, 3-2 | The Kansas City Monarchs had to overcome a fine performance from Chicago pitcher Jon Matlack to grab a 3-2 win at Wrigley Field. Matlack allowed 2 runs over 7.2 innings. The winner in relief was Bruce Dal Canton. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 1.2 innings. He now owns a record of 7-10. The Monarchs go to 46-93 with the win.
Kansas City used a timely hit from Jose Iglesias to get the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Monarchs ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Chicago manager Chase Castner said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said. | | | | |
