| Athletics Deal Black Barons 5-3 Loss | Kansas City picked up a win at Rickwood Field, bumping off the Birmingham Black Barons, 5-3. Pitcher Robbie Ray was a major reason the Athletics emerged victorious. In 6.1 innings, Ray surrendered 6 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. The third-place Athletics lifted their record to 62-77.
Kansas City used the timely hitting of Joe Grace to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Athletics on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Ray told the Kansas City Times.
