Birmingham Black Barons starter Claude Osteen pitched a strong game against the Washington Senators at RFK Stadium, leading the Black Barons to victory, 2-1. Picking up the save was Robbie Weinhardt, his 4th. With the victory, the Black Barons upped their record to 26-19.

With Birmingham leading 1-0 in the top of the fourth, Brian L Hunter hit a run-scoring single off Washington pitcher Mickey Harris. It put the Black Barons ahead 2-0.

Osteen told a Birmingham Citizen reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
