| Eagles Nip Black Yankees, 6-5 | The Houston Eagles and New York Black Yankees obliged fans looking for a good time.
The Houston Eagles picked up a win at Buffalo Stadium, knocking off the New York Black Yankees, 6-5. Starting pitcher Ted Gray played a key role in the triumph. Houston reliever Takashi Saito picked up the win, upping his record to 3-2. Pete Schourek shouldered the loss.
Had Bill Monroe not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Monroe hit a 2-run single. That made the score 6-4, in favor of the Eagles.
"We put it together today and came out with the win," Gray said in postgame remarks. "That's the main thing."
With the victory, the Eagles upped their record to 27-21.
