Washington Stakes 1-0 Series With Walk-off win
The Washington Senators took the first game of the World Series in dramatic fashion today, topping the Birmingham Black Barons in a ninth-inning, walk-off, 5-3 win. Black Barons left-hander Al Leiter was impressive in the loss. He threw 7 innings of 3-hit ball.

Leo Gomez was the walk-off hero for Washington. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Senators third baseman hit a dramatic 2-run home run to send the teams home.

Gomez attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."

Game 2 is set to be played tomorrow at RFK Stadium. Slated to start are Claude Osteen for the Birmingham Black Barons and Smokey Joe Williams for the the Washington Senators.
