Win Extends Senators Lead to 2-0 Over Black Barons
The Washington Senators got a strong performance from pitcher Smokey Joe Williams, who stymied the visiting Birmingham Black Barons en route to a win, 5-2, in Game 2 of the World Series today. The Black Barons could never get a bead on the right-handed Williams, who threw 7 innings allowing 2 runs. The Senators now hold a 2-0 in the best-of-7 series.

Al Ferrara took Claude Osteen deep in the bottom of the sixth. His 2-run home run put the Senators on top, 4-2. In all, Ferrara had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.

"We did enough to win," said Ferrara.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow in Washington. Slated to start are Jim Umbarger for the Birmingham Black Barons and Mickey Harris for the the Washington Senators.
