Black Yankees Win at Chicago, 5-3
The Chicago American Giants got a superb performance from pitcher Billy Hoeft, but the New York Black Yankees still won the game, 5-3. Hoeft threw 5 innings allowing 1 run. The winner in relief was Jim Willoughby. He is now 3-2. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 1.2 innings. The save went to Pete Schourek, his 7th this season.

Johnny Damon had a timely hit in the top of the sixth inning. With two out and runners on 1st and 2nd, the New York center fielder hit a run-scoring single. That put the Black Yankees in front, 5-3.

"We'll savor this win," Damon told the New York Chronicle, "then get ready for the next game."

New York, at 25-27, holds down second place in the Junior Circuit Waterloo.
