Angels Lose By a Run at Houston, 1-0 | Houston starter Tom Griffin put a stranglehold on the Los Angeles offense. The right-hander had complete command of his slider in leading the Eagles to a 1-0 win. Griffin, the winner, moves to 6-1. He threw 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 4 and giving up 1 walk. Takashi Saito converted his 15th save in 16 tries.
Bill Monroe had a go-ahead home run for Houston in the bottom of the third inning. With no one out and the bases empty, the two-time All-Star hit a solo home run off Martin Dihigo. His 7th home run of the season made the score 1-0.
Griffin told a Houston Daily reporter that he was "more than satisfied" with the win.
The win elevated the Eagles to 33-22. | | | | |
