The St. Louis Browns got a sterling performance from left fielder Felipe Crespo, but the Washington Senators still prevailed, 8-3. Crespo was 3-4 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs. The Senators raised their record to 29-42.

In the bottom of the first, Jim Rice hit a 3-run home run. The 13th home run of the season for the Washington left fielder put the Senators on top, 3-0.

"I've been criticized for being a slacker, but the one thing I do care about is winning," Rice told the Washington Chronicle.
