Caribou Fall Short, 3-2, at Kansas City | Caribou got a decent performance from pitcher Orval Overall, but it wasn't enough to beat the Kansas City Monarchs. Kansas City won the Buck O'Neil Yard contest, 3-2. Overall threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball for the losing team. The win belongs to Sid Fernandez in relief. His record improves to 2-3. Orval Overall took the loss for Caribou. Bruce Dal Canton got the save, his 7th in 10 chances.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Monarchs had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the second, when third baseman Stephen Drew hit a 2-run single. The single came off Orval Overall and made the score 2-0, Monarchs. Drew was 1 for 3, while adding 2 RBI.
Caribou manager Miguel Jon Woodsum said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
The Monarchs sport a record of 30-52. | | | | |
