Browns Nip Bears, 7-6 | The St. Louis Browns overcame a good performance by Milwaukee shortstop Toby Harrah to knock off Milwaukee, 7-6, at Sportsman's Park. Harrah went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Frank Pastore, 1-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. The win puts St. Louis at 5-3.
The Browns were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when center fielder Roger Maris turned a full count slider from Jim Bruske into a grand slam home run. The walk-off home run electrified the Sportsman's Park denizens and sent the Browns home with a thrilling 7-6 win.
"We'll kick back tonight, then get set for the next one," Maris said. | | | | |
