| Federals Mow Down Black Barons, 10-3 | The Chicago Federals topped the Birmingham Black Barons, 10-3, in Senior Circuit action at Wrigley Field. The standout performance belonged to Chicago pitcher and West Chester, Ohio, native Jon Matlack. Matlack went 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. His record improves to 8-13. At 40-46, the Federals find themselves in third place in the Senior Circuit Mama Mia.
The Federals took the lead in the bottom of the third. With one out, Thurman Munson hit a grand slam home run off Birmingham pitcher Jim Umbarger, putting Chicago in front, 7-0. For the game, Munson was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 4 runs and scored once.
"If I go out there and help the team win, that's all you can do," said Matlack.
