7-4 Loss Extends Chicago Skid | Chicago center fielder Pete Hill had a good game, even if his team did not. The Federals dropped a 7-4 decision to Houston at Wrigley Field. Hill went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Houston reliever Rich Monteleone picked up the win, upping his record to 2-1. Grant Bowler shouldered the loss. The slumping Federals have dropped 6 in a row.
Houston used the clutch hitting of Dave Bancroft to snag the win. The shortstop drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the seventh inning to put the Eagles ahead, 7-2. It was his lone hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
Bancroft said he was "thrilled" the fans had something to get excited about. | | | | |
