Browns Get Hard-Earned Win, Stop Senators, 7-6 | The St. Louis Browns had to overcome a big game from Washington first baseman George Grantham to leave Sportsman's Park with a victory. And they did, winning 7-6. Grantham was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The Browns lead the Junior Circuit Fernando by 15½ games.
In the bottom of the ninth, with no one out and the game tied, 6-6, third baseman Billy Goodman won it for St. Louis. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Goodman hit a full count fastball from Todd Worrell for a run-scoring single, giving his team the 7-6 win.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Goodman. | | | | |
