Senators Come Back Late, Nip Athletics | The Washington Senators downed the Kansas City Athletics, 3-2, at RFK Stadium. Davey Johnson led the way, going 3-for-3 for Washington. Jack Aker, now 1-3, picked up the win in relief. He allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 3.1 innings. Todd Worrell converted his 4th save in 4 tries.
Washington took the lead in the bottom of the fifth when Johnson hit a 2-run double. His 25th double of the season made the score 2-1, Washington.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Kansas City manager John Conley.
