Federals Prevail, 4-2, Over Washington | Chicago got a strong outing from Bob Gibson as the Federals defeated the Washington Senators, 4-2, at Wrigley Field. In 5.1 innings, Gibson surrendered 2 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Stan Ferens was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 14 of 20 save opportunities.
Pete Hill had a big hit for Chicago in the bottom of the third inning. With Chicago leading 1-0, Hill hit a 2-run double. It was his 15th double of the season and put the Federals up, 3-0.
"I liked his command," said Chicago manager Chase Castner. "Bob was throwing strikes."
