Eagles Prevail, 3-1, Over Birmingham | Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Houston Eagles and the Birmingham Black Barons. Houston won it, 3-1. Houston starter Fritz Peterson was in command. Takashi Saito was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 33 of 37 save opportunities. The triumph puts Houston at 77-53 for the season.
In the bottom of the 4th, the Eagles grabbed the lead on a two-out home run by Fred Carroll. Houston at the time was trailing 1-0, but Carroll's 3-run home run off Jim Umbarger put his team in front.
