The Boston Americans and Memphis Red Sox were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

Memphis used a superb performance from starting pitcher Ralph Branca to down the Boston Americans, 7-1. Branca, the winner, moves to 3-1. He threw 7 innings of 2-hit ball, while fanning 3 and giving up no walks.

Chase Utley hit a 2-run double off Brickyard Kennedy in the top of the first, which put the Red Sox in front, 2-0. In addition to the double, Utley had 1 single, while going 2 for 5.

"Getting ahead of the hitters was the key," said Branca.

The loss drops the Americans to 15-11.
