Boston Americans manager Ice Chamberlin knew it was a gamble to give the start to a rookie. It was a good gamble to take.

Pitching in front of a hostile crowd, 24-year-old left-hander Cowboy Jones silenced the host New York Black Yankees at Yankee Stadium I today. The Americans shut out the Black Yankees by a final score of 2-0, to give the Americans a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Round 2.

In his 123-pitch effort, Jones allowed no earned runs on 4 hits over 9 innings. He walked 2 and struck out 5.

"We haven't stopped playing," New York manager John McInerney said. "We didn't get this far to give up."

The next game is set to be played Wednesday, October 11th, 1961 at Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds in Boston. Slated to start are Bruce Hurst for the New York Black Yankees and Mike F McCormick for the the Boston Americans.
