| Americans Edge Dodgers 1-0 to Open World Series | Bobo Newsom and the Boston Americans opened the Round 3 in brilliant fashion today, traveling to Los Angeles and shutting out the host Dodgers at Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum 1-0 to secure an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Newsom, the Americans right-hander, was named player of the game as he threw 9 innings of shutout ball.
In his 107-pitch effort, Newsom allowed no earned runs on 3 hits over 9 innings. He walked 0 and struck out 4.
"We lost," Los Angeles manager Eric Misener said later. "We'll deal with it. The series isn't over."
The next game is scheduled for tomorrow in Los Angeles. The scheduled starters for the game are Aaron Sanchez for Boston and Mark Fidrych for Los Angeles.
