Thrilling Win Pushes Boston to Next Round | The Boston Americans and New York Black Yankees clubhouses couldn't have been any more opposite after the October Madness concluded at Yankee Stadium I.
The Americans clubhouse was alive with music and loud celebration as the team rejoiced after a 3-2 win to advance to the League Championship Series. The Black Yankees clubhouse was completely quiet, with hardly a word spoken, as the team struggled with the fact that their season was now over and there would be no World Series championship.
"Our guys wanted this badly, so it hurts," said New York manager John McInerney.
Boston left-hander Herb Pennock was named series MVP as he threw 8 innings, with 2 strikeouts, while allowing 11 hits, 2 walks and 2 runs in the win.
"We're feeling good about our chances now," Pennock said. "Getting through the one-game playoff is huge and will take some pressure off."
The Boston Americans will play against the Caribou Caribou in the next round. Caribou had a bye in the October Madness. The League Championship Series is scheduled to begin on October 7th, 1971. | | | | |
