Bears Prevail, 2-0, Over Kansas City | Milwaukee picked up a win at County Stadium , toppling the Kansas City Monarchs, 2-0. Pitcher Jarrod Washburn was one of the reasons the Bears triumphed. Washburn went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. His record improves to 2-5. The Bears, now 19-21, know that wins in May count the same as wins in September.
Jim Edmonds took Bill Stoneman deep in the bottom of the fifth. His solo home run put the Bears on top, 1-0. In all, Edmonds had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"The key at this level is throwing strike one," said Washburn. "Successful pitchers do it." | | | | |
