| Red Sox Even With Eagles After Home Win | The Memphis Red Sox topped the Houston Eagles by the score of 6-4 and moved into a 1-1 tie in the Division Round today. The largest share of the credit belongs to Memphis starter Ralph Branca, who threw 8 innings of 6-hit ball in the win.
A crucial at-bat came with a runner on 2nd and one out in the bottom of the sixth inning. That's when right fielder Kevin Mench hit a run-scoring single. The Red Sox went on to win.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Mench told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Elvis Stadium in Memphis. Slated to start are Fritz Peterson for the Houston Eagles and Ownie Carroll for the the Memphis Red Sox.
