The stakes were high. Willie Foster was ready.

The left-hander turned in a performance for the ages at Elvis Stadium today, pitching a 9-inning, complete-game shutout to lead the Milwaukee Bears to victory in Game 1 of the League Championship Series. Foster held the Memphis Red Sox to 4 hits and no walks, while striking out 3. The win got the best-of-7 series off to a good start for Milwaukee, which now leads 1-0.

Foster went the distance for Milwaukee. He allowed no runs on 4 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0.

Foster called the win "a lesson in teamwork."

The next game is scheduled for tomorrow at Elvis Stadium in Memphis. Slated to start are Robin Roberts for Milwaukee and Geoff Zahn for Memphis.
