| Red Sox Top Americans in Extras, 4-3 | Memphis and Boston duked it out and the Red Sox came out victorious.
The Memphis Red Sox did just enough to sneak past the Boston Americans, 4-3, at Elvis Stadium. Memphis pitcher Tommy John, in particular, had a standout performance. Memphis has 8 straight wins, Boston 3 straight losses.
Memphis won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. With two outs and Bill Bartley on the mound for Boston, second baseman Glenn Wright hit a dramatic solo home run, bringing Red Sox fans to their feet.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," John said.
