Senators Lose Late, 9-7 | The Detroit Stars trumped the Washington Senators, 9-7, at Tiger Stadium. Detroit left fielder Jeffrey Leonard was terrific. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Jose Leclerc got credit for the win, improving to 3-3. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2 innings. German Marquez, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
Detroit took a 9-7 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, when Mule Suttles hit a clutch grand slam home run to bring Stars fans to their feet.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Leonard told the Detroit Chronicle. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
