Browns Drop Senators, 9-4 | The St. Louis Browns racked up a win at RFK Stadium, bumping off the Washington Senators, 9-4. Burleigh Grimes, who started for St. Louis, pitched effectively for his team. Grimes, now 7-5, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 2, and allowing 1 run. St. Louis goes to 41-28. The win puts them 7½ games up in their division.
St. Louis used a well-timed hit by Mike Colbern to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Browns ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"We're all smiles after that win," Grimes told the St. Louis Times. | | | | |
