Athletics Stumble, Lose to Federals | The home crowd had a good time watching the Kansas City Athletics and Chicago Federals get after it.
The performance of Joe Cronin proved critical in helping Chicago beat Kansas City, 11-4. The Federals second baseman was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 4. The winning pitcher was Bob Gibson. His record is now 11-6. The right-hander went 6.1 innings, allowing 4 runs on 8 hits for the Federals.
With two out in the bottom of the third, Rafael Palmeiro hit a go-ahead 2-run double. It was his 7th double of the season and with it the Federals took a 2-0 lead.
"We take it day by day here," said Palmeiro, "and today was a good one for us."
The Athletics, now 34-42, have lost 4 in a row. | | | | |
