| Senators Edge Past Stars, 2-1 | Detroit wasted a solid 7-inning effort from starting pitcher Bob Ojeda, losing to Washington, 2-1, at RFK Stadium. Washington reliever Joe Nathan was the winner. His record is now 1-1. The losing pitcher was Al Hollingsworth. The win puts Washington at 5-3.
In the bottom of the tenth, Jim Rice knew he could end it with one good swing of the bat. And he did, hitting a run-scoring single off Detroit pitcher Al Hollingsworth.
"We found a way to get it done," Rice said.
