| Red Sox Prevail, 4-2, Over Washington | Memphis turned a good effort from starter Geoff Zahn into a win over the Washington Senators at Elvis Stadium. The final score was 4-2. Jose Mijares was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 2 of 3 save opportunities. With the win, Memphis pushed its record to 48-30.
With Memphis trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, the Red Sox fortunes got a boost when right fielder Monte Irvin turned a 2-0 fastball from Joe Nathan into his 12th home run of the season. The hit scored 2 and put Memphis up, 2-1.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Memphis skipper Joel Mejiano.
