Monarchs Win Thriller, 5-2 | The Kansas City Monarchs picked up a win at Buck O'Neil Yard, knocking off the Chicago Federals, 5-2. Starting pitcher Lefty Williams played a key role in the triumph. Kansas City reliever Bill Stoneman was the winner. His record is now 1-0. Stan Ferens took the loss. The win gives the Monarchs a record of 2-6.
Kansas City won the game in the bottom of the ninth inning. With two outs and Stan Ferens on the mound for Chicago, pinch hitter Steve Brye hit a dramatic 3-run home run, bringing Monarchs fans to their feet.
