8-1 Loss Deepens Kansas City Funk | In baseball, each game is unique. This one was no different.
Houston right fielder Fred Carroll was a significant contributor in his team's 8-1 triumph over the Kansas City Athletics. He was 3-5 with a home run and a double. He scored 3 times and drove in 2 for Houston. Ted Gray earned the win for Houston. He lasted 6 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits, while striking out 1. With the win, he raised his record to 7-6.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Eagles had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the third, when catcher Buck Rodgers hit a 2-run single. The single came off Robbie Ray and made the score 5-1, Eagles. Rodgers went 1 for 5. He drove in 2 runs.
"We cashed in when we had the chance," said Houston manager Charles Wolfson.
The third-place Athletics have lost 7 consecutive games. | | | | |
