Great Effort by Maris Wasted in 11-8 Browns Loss
The Memphis Red Sox defeated the St. Louis Browns, 11-8. Doing his part was center fielder Roger Maris, who was 3 for 4 with 2 home runs, a triple, and a walk. He scored 3 runs and drove in 3. With the win, Memphis upped its record to 49-30.

Memphis used a clutch hit from Kevin Mench to snatch the win. The left fielder belted a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 7-5. It was his only hit, but it was huge.

"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Mench told the Memphis Citizen. "But we take nothing for granted."
