| Black Barons Use Late-Game Magic to Beat Americans, 4-2 | The Boston Americans got a sterling performance from pitcher Brickyard Kennedy, but the Birmingham Black Barons still prevailed, 4-2. Kennedy threw 7 innings of shutout ball. Birmingham reliever Robbie Weinhardt picked up the win, upping his record to 4-1. Monty Kennedy shouldered the loss. Birmingham raised its record to 45-36 with the win.
Birmingham used a clutch hit from Stan Spence to get the win. The designated hitter drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Black Barons ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Spence.
