| Stars Fall Short, 5-4, at Chicago | The Chicago Federals did just enough to sneak past the Detroit Stars, 5-4, at Wrigley Field. Chicago pitcher Bob Gibson, in particular, had a standout performance. Grant Bowler earned his 3rd save in 8 chances. The last-place Federals have a record of 46-57.
The Federals got an important contribution from center fielder Pete Hill, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a 1-2 changeup into right for a 2-run double. It was his 10th double of the season and put the Federals ahead, 5-0.
Hill told the Chicago Daily: "Win or lose, I don't want to see our team outhustled."
