American Giants Raise Rally Flag, Beat Yokohama, 10-8 | The Chicago American Giants overcame a fine performance by Yokohama first baseman Willie Aikens to defeat the Dodgers, 10-8, at Kanagawa Prefecture Park. Aikens went 3 for 4 with a home run, a double, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3. Brian Boehringer, now 3-3, was credited with the win. He allowed 1 run on 2 hits, while striking out 0 and walking 0. The win gives Chicago a season record of 52-52.
Chicago got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Domingo Santana. The left fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the American Giants ahead, 10-8. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Santana, "but we got it done." | | | | |
