Memphis Red Sox starter Ralph Branca was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Boston Americans, 4-3. The winning pitcher was Branca, now 12-9. He tossed 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 0 and fanning 6. Carlos A Diaz notched his 25th save in 28 chances.

Memphis used a well-timed hit by Chase Utley to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the second inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 2 at-bats, it was important.

Branca attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
