| Browns Rebuff Monarchs, 8-6 | The St. Louis Browns weathered a fine game by Kansas City designated hitter Heinie Manush to upend the Monarchs, 8-6, at Sportsman's Park. Manush was 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. Burleigh Grimes, the winner, goes to 10-8. He allowed 5 runs on 8 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts over 8 innings. Dave LaRoche, credited with the save, is now 13 for 16 in save opportunities.
The Browns got an important contribution from third baseman Billy Goodman, who in the bottom of the first hit a 2-2 fastball into left for a 2-run double. It was his 17th double of the season and put the Browns ahead, 3-0.
"If I do my job, we've usually got a good chance to win the game," said Goodman.
The win elevated the Browns to 71-50.
