| Nuxhall Shuts Out Iowa, 4-0 Friday, August 26th, 2005 The Wading River Pirates shut out the Iowa Cubs 4-0 today behind the strong pitching of Joe Nuxhall. Nuxhall surrendered only 3 hits in recording the complete-game victory, and struck out 7.
Following the last out, Nuxhall appeared to celebrate a little too boisterously for Iowa manager , who could be seen scolding the famously outspoken left-hander as the clubs left the field. Nuxhall's own manager then intervened with some words for his counterpart.
The Cubs skipper would not comment on the exchange, but at the Pirates press conference, Nuxhall confirmed that it was regarding the celebration.
"He basically told me I was being a lousy winner," Nuxhall said.
"And I told him he was being a lousy loser," Wading River manager added.
Up to now Nuxhall has compiled an ERA of 4.12 with a 16-11 mark over 46 starts. He has 159 strikeouts in 235.2 innings and has held opponents to a .260 batting average. | | |
